Did the socialists punished him for being on the losing side during the war years?

He survived the war, fortunately.
Though he did get wounded. Im not sure what happened, but he lost many ribs, so apparently a large schrapnel hit his chest.
I don't know if the new Soviet controlled police made his life harder. Propably.

Very nice pic of one of your family. Kiitos, Stewy

Does anyone have an idea what the black award on his left chest might be?

Probably a Verwundetenabzeichen in Schwarz [Wound Badge in Black]; but the photo is not clear enough to make a 100% positive ID. Can you post a higher-resolution scan of that part of the photograph?

The "Red Valpo" (Valpo stands for Valtion Poliisi, State Police) after the war did interrogate some of the former Waffen-SS recruits. Some, but not all did lose their jobs in the Finnish Defense Forces. The most notorious person to suffer these acts has to be Lauri Törni, as he was expelled from the Finnish Defense Forces and he served a prison sentence. Although most people don't realize that the he was charged for treason, because he joined the Waffen-SS the second time during the Lapland War, when Finland was fighting against Germany. To my knowledge the earlier Waffen-SS recruits didn't serve sentences for their involvement in the SS, but they were persecuted at some level. The socialist and Soviet affected government didn't last long after the war, although Finland was insinuating towards the Soviet Union during the Cold War era, because of fear of an another war etc.
