    Hi guys,
I have just bought this gebirgsjager postcard. This is the well known image that appeared in SIGNAL magazine.

Can anyone translate the writing on the back for me please? There is a TR feldpost stamp on it but a post date of December 1945????? Surely they weren't still using the old stamps ( although it does look like the swaz could have been blanked out ... just a bit hard to see )

I just thought it was unusual and it is such an iconic Gebirgsjager image - the sender was still proud 6 months after the defeat!

    cheers, Dan

    It says:

"Ein frohes Weihnachtsfest wünscht Euch allen Euer Ernst"
["Merry Christmas to you all from your Ernst"].

It was sent by Ernst Erdmann, an Obergefreiter in the naval artillery, serving in Gotenhafen [now Gdynia, Poland].

The recipients were the wainwright Jakob Schollenberger and his family at Oberflockenbach near Heidelberg in Baden.

I think the year is actually 1943.

Ah, Andreas my friend, you come through with the goods again!!!

Well Xmas 1943 would explain a lot, but it sure looked like a '5' to me .....
It is an interesting image to use for a man serving at a Kriegsmarine batterie .....??

    Thanks again, Dan

Yes, a far more glamorous life than staring at the sky looking for bombers and daily gunnery drills!!

No, it is "43', of course, there is no '5".
