    Very nice pics,
in the 7th and in the last picture this guy had a revolver in his jacket and in his belt...and it seems to be a Russian revolver Nagant M1895.
So, propably the Germans used this type of "rude but efficent" gun because the freezing weather that, maybe, created problems to the "sofisticated" mechanism of their semi-automatic P08 and P38
    Hello,
    Maybe the soldiers who carry a M1895 didn't even have a P08 or P38.
I mean the MG first shooter did have a handgun, the commanding NCO had one also, but not the other soldiers...that's why i think they could have taken soviet handguns for close defense and carry them in the belt...like some mexican pistoleros from a movie.

Dimas : thanks for posting this great german report. Is it a complete report, or are there other pics in it ?

Nice pics. Lilke the 2nd very much. I may be wrong but it looks like a flare pistol not a revolver.

I think that was a usually "warriors" fashion to use the enemy weapons. Even I will say the PPD gun was a good quality made SMG. The mashinegunners crew must have the own small arms for close combat defence. As usual that is P 08, as in the late war there was a different Beute pistols. As known the 20 Waffen Gren div d SS ( Estonian) has widely used the Polish VIS 35 - 9 mm Radom pistols, 11,43 mm Kongsberg Norwegian Colts, and Czech CZ-27 7,65 pistols, for sure the P08 too, for NCOs and MG crews.
