    Thanks. After buying this photo I caught the GD bug. I eventually want to buy a nice pair of GD Hauptmann shoulder boards to display next to the photo if I frame it.

    Paul,

    I wish I knew who the Hauptmann was. I plan on purchasing Scott Pritchett's excellent Großdeutschland series and combing through each volume to look for him. A chapter in Volume 2 deals specifically with GD/FHQ cufftitles and will be especially helpful.

    I borrowed all three volumes of the GD series on inter-library loan from the Library of Congress while working on a school project earlier this year. If you haven't seen it all I can say is that it is an amazing and exhaustive work on this elite unit. The amount of period photos, original uniform items and insignia collected for this project is staggering. I could contact the author directly and ask him if he knows who the Hauptmann is first but the prospect of trying to find him on my own in one of the books is much more exciting.
