Very nice formal shot , have you any idea who it is ?
The gates of hell were opened and we accepted the invitation to enter" 26/880 Lance Sgt, Edward Dyke. 26th Bn Northumberland Fusiliers , ( 3rd Tyneside Irish )
1st July 1916
Thought shall be the harder , heart the keener,
Courage the greater as our strength faileth.
Here lies our leader ,in the dust of his greatness.
Who leaves him now , be damned forever.
We who are old now shall not leave this Battle,
But lie at his feet , in the dust with our leader

Thanks. After buying this photo I caught the GD bug. I eventually want to buy a nice pair of GD Hauptmann shoulder boards to display next to the photo if I frame it.

Re: Großdeutschland/Führerhauptquartiere Portrait
Paul,
I wish I knew who the Hauptmann was. I plan on purchasing Scott Pritchett's excellent Großdeutschland series and combing through each volume to look for him. A chapter in Volume 2 deals specifically with GD/FHQ cufftitles and will be especially helpful.
I borrowed all three volumes of the GD series on inter-library loan from the Library of Congress while working on a school project earlier this year. If you haven't seen it all I can say is that it is an amazing and exhaustive work on this elite unit. The amount of period photos, original uniform items and insignia collected for this project is staggering. I could contact the author directly and ask him if he knows who the Hauptmann is first but the prospect of trying to find him on my own in one of the books is much more exciting.
