It`s hard to believe that this harmless looking little man was the cause of so much misery with his Endlosung program.

Do read the new biography of him by Peter Longerich. He grapples with the issue you raise. He was a destructive human being, formed by an odd combination of middle class propriety and the epoch of the 1914-1918 era, as well as the its aftermath.

In the Longerich biography, the author makes much of the manner in which Heini H doted on his daughter and also engaged her within the limits of the thing in the roles and missions of the SS as in the image above. As the marriage with the scintillating woman depicted above in my post went into the crapper, and Heini H. took up with his mistress, Himmler adhered to his daughter all the same. Heini H was a man of limitless energy, as well as a sense of power and went everywhere to look first hand at what his people did, and the daughter was frequently included.

Do listen to Heini H.s speeches in the internet to get another aspect of the man. His Oberstudienrat appearance is belied by the violence of his speeches and their blood curdling character. There are several of them at hand and repay listening to, especially if you are interested in the psychological and biographical aspect of these people. It is not enough to read these speeches, which have been reprinted, but you must hear them.

As he saw himself....God only knows what misery lies in the documents themselves.
