    Default Latest "pick up"!

i can't remember if it was related to my birthday having passed a couple of weeks ago, or what. i might have mentioned it to him.

at any rate, i wanted to show off my latest photo which came as a gift from member "Dean".

as you all know, it needn't be said that he's a great member and generous too!

thanks to Dean for presenting me with the ONLY militaria i have ever received for my birthday.

and now, the photograph with some comments:

Dean pointed this out to me and i did not have the chance to discover it myself although i would hope that i might have noticed it!

the image is reversed. the man appears to be wearing his dagger on his right side and his breast eagle, of course, appears to be above his left pocket. an interesting feature to be sure.

again... thanks Dean! i really appreciate it!

i'm finding the inscription a little difficult. obviously "someone" in June of 1940 and a photo "in remembrance" of this individual, but there are a couple of words i'm having trouble with. one looks like "keinen" perhaps? i don't know. maybe one of our resident experts will happen by.

Developed from the wrong side of the negative, great photo all the same!...
It's a wasted trip baby. Nobody said nothing about locking horns with no Tigers.

I'm Spartacus, not really i'm Paul!...

The dedication was written at Sochaczew (in Poland) in June 1940 and says:

"Meinem lb. [= lieben] Mädel zur steten Erinnerung an ihren [signed]"

[="To my dear girl as a permanent memory of her [signed]"]
