Here is a Panzerman from Panzer Division "Feldhernhalle". At first I thought the cypher was for Armoured Train Personnel. But w/ a friends help.....he was able to tell me it was most likely Feldhernhalle cypher.
The interesting thing is that it is a Metal Cypher, usually only seen on ranks above NCO. BUT....he told me that EM + NCO's in FHH actually wore metal cyphers in the last year of the war!!!! Pretty neat.
Makes sense, as this is a 3rd pattern wrap, and the photo is dated "Vienna (Wien) January 1945.

And here is a VERY cool (IMO) ID'ed portrait. It is of Fahnenjunker-Feldwebel Deiter Jahn of the 5th Panzer Regiment. His father was General der Artillerie Kurt Jahn!
He wears a Third Pattern Wrap
More top photos Bill keep them coming !!

Thought shall be the harder , heart the keener,
Courage the greater as our strength faileth.
Here lies our leader ,in the dust of his greatness.
Who leaves him now , be damned forever.
We who are old now shall not leave this Battle,
But lie at his feet , in the dust with our leader

Bill if you start saving now you will have enough money to go for digging in the spring. I started already.
Paul is organizing digging trips in Narva so if you can make it we can meet there
Looking for the photo albums of Leutnant Emil Freitag, 3. / G.R. 377
That would be incredible. Spring is the busy time for my business, but I would do anything to try and make that trip! We'll talk for sure.
It sounds kinda redneck, but when my brothers and I first moved here to VA...we learned our property used to be a civil war hospital ground. (which is common here) We started excavating small parts of our land, but would only find OLD bottles. Turns out we hit a few old dumping sites. Found nothing military/civil war related yet, but we still dig for bottles and have a blast doing it. Youd be surprised to see what people used to keep in glass bottles! lol
figured some might enjoy this.
Well......since the thread is kinda slow at the moment.....
If anyone has a detailed portrait they would like me to colorize, I could try to do my best on it for you! I havent done many combat scenes or anything, but I can do portraits. Obviously the more sharp/detailed the photo is, the better it comes out. Feel free to post it and I will give it a try.
Thank You Guys. Good to see you both here.
Here is a HUGE portrait photo ....Almost the size of a piece of computer paper!
