And the last one, a nice photo of a couple of Luftwaffe men with a lady.

I hope you guys liked these.

    Thanks for your help, Ade.

I think the last one is either sister and brothers or young mum with married sons, one of the guys seems to be at home with his boots off

    # 2349: "Manöver in d. [= der] Sonne" = "Field exercise in the sun"
    # 2351: "Waldlager" = "Forest encampment", can't quite make out the place, though.

    Thank you very much Andreas!

You're gonna love this. The single sentence in different orientation from the other two says:

    "Wir sahen aus wie Seeräuber"

    ...meaning:

    "We looked like pirates"

    The bottom sentence:

    "Die anderen beiden Kameraden
    sind von Ostpreußen
    "

    ...i.e.:

    "The other two comrades
    are from East Prussia
    "

    Between that:

"Das kann doch einen Seemann nicht
    erschüttern, keine Angst, keine
    Angst, Elisabeth
    "

    ...which literally means:

"Now that can't shake a sailor,
    fear not, fear
    not, Elisabeth
    "

This is actually a slightly modified quote from a very popular song. (Normally, it's "Rosmarie" instead of "Elisabeth". Elisabeth surely was the name of the soldier's better half.)

See here for a period recording of the song in question:

It looked like "Gescha" to me too, at first, but I could not find any reference to a place with this name.

(Maybe I should look at it with less tired eyes. It's 2330 hrs. here; think I'll sign off now for today...)

Fantastic info yet again. Thank you very much, Andreas.

    The song isn't bad either!

For the record - The photos are not that yellow, it's just the girlfriend is out of town i.e. not going to get great lighting.

That third photo is quite funny, its like they're looking at bits of paper and the end guy has said "bugger it, its my turn to dodge the bullets", the guy next to him is saying"Dont worry my bolts bent"
