Everything about this mans uniform screamed SA to me. haha I Did notice that on the kepi underneath the eagle, that it is not the typical SA "button" fixture, but a different type of insignia. That was the only thing I noticed that was out of place for SA. Very good eye HPL...... I had this photo in my possesion for a long time and had never noticed that. To be honest, I have never seen another period photo of a FAD/NSAD man. Pretty neat and great observation/information HPL.
Thanks! But it gets even better: This image has inspired me to Google around for more FAD/NSAD images and, lo and behold - I actually came up with photographs showing more early Labor Service members wearing these exact same caps and collar patches. Check it out:

The full album from where these pictures came can be viewed under:

(The other albums found at Militaria Archive of Photographs, Photo Albums and postcards relating to WWI & WWII are well worth viewing, too.)

WOW. Some beautiful images in those albums and on the first link as well. You were so right about them being NSAD too HPL....they are wearing the NSAD insignia under the eagle on the kepis, just like the photo shown in this thread. It amazes me how much they look like SA if not looking closely. I wonder if the uniforms are a different shade of brown than the SA's?? But Those are some incredible albums...thanks for finding them. I spent a good amount of time looking through all the photos. I was suprised to see them using/posing with motorcycles too. Looks like I have some research to do learning the history of predecessor of the RAD.
HPL you are probably bored of answering my questions....but I have recieved what I believe to be a Reichswehr era photo of some Sanitaters. There is one man who is in a dark uniform with medic patch. He wears a kepi with early SS/SA/Political eagle and tabs to match. Looks like an early SA man to me, but the uniform looks very dark and the kepi seems to be missing the "button fixture". (unless it is hidden by the chinstrap) Any ideas?

P.S.- Thanks for sharing "History Is Me". Nice deathcards

    #6. A nice IR 17?? WW1 portrait
Check out the cap insignias. The man in the middle looks like his insignia is broken in half maybe. I believe these insignia to be the "KarpathenKorp" cap badge. For units who fought in the Carpathian Alps. At first I thought they were Jagers. Anyone have any info on this, or why the middle mans badge is smaller?

Don't worry; you keep finding great photos, so I'm not bored looking at them.

Most of the men in that group (those in full uniform with the white red cross collar patches as well as those wearing only a cap and red cross armband or a brassard with civilian dress are from the Deutsches Rotes Kreuz [German Red Cross].

The man with the different uniform you were asking about is indeed from the SA.

Violet collar patches with rank insignia worn on both sides by all ranks and violet specialist sleeve badges were worn by the Medical SA [Sanitäts-SA] ca. mid-1933 to the end of 1933. The sleeve badge seen here is the one with an Aesculapius Rod worn by physicians. (Pharmacists wore one with an "A", dentists with a "Z")

HPL, thank you. Im glad I was actually correct this time about the SA mann. haha. thanks for the info on the DRK members. I really like this photo, even though it is not my usual area of interest. It is still nice to see variation every once in a while though. I havent seen an SA physcician before to be honest. Wait, so SA medical personell wore the violet specialists patches for a very short period of time in 33'......was it the same with the violet tabs too? thanks again

#8. Here is a cool photo. I dont know who the General is (think he is a GeneralMajor), and he is handing the other man some sort of award. I was wondering what you guys think the award could be?? The other man seems to be a hauptman or major maybe. It almost looks like an EK2 ribbon to me, but I would like some other input. Also, does anyone know who the general is by any chance? thanks
(he has a small resemblence to von Brauchitsch almost)
