I just got a lot of over 20 pictures Ill be posting eventually, here are the first two the one on the right looks like SA and possibly the other picture as well? I have no clue what the writing says. The collar tab appears to be 83?

The only "Major Doring" I found via Google was a Major in the Luftwaffe but I'm guessing the one in the photo is an army Major..?

The men in the photo are Heer (Army), yes.

I don't think the graffiti is making fun of anything per se. To me it appears harmless cartoons with reference to various locations or experiences to some significance to them.

I know that "Lili Marlene... Belgrad" would refer to Radio Belgrade which, from 1941 on wards played "Lili Marlene" all the time and soldiers from all over Europe and Africa sent in letters to them asking them to play it more... including Rommel himself.

I think the two other references to Crete and Athens would be known to some of you guys as far as their significance to the particular soldiers on this train.

As you point out, Xantippe was Socrates wife and the name became a word and, among other things, can mean a shrew (not the animal but rather "shrew" in the sense of loudly and annoyingly critical) woman.

Minos was the first king of Crete if I recall.

In short, I think the graffiti is innocent.

Aha! Makes sense. Thanks for taking the time to explain. I thought the drawings were neat and didnt exactly know the meanings of them, but I would agree after reading your statements that it was innocently done! lol

Here is a grave photo of a few Panzermen from Panzer Abteilung 67 who were killed in France.....buried in Noyers Pont Maugis.

Panzer ABteilung 67 became part of the 8th Panzer Division not too long after these men were killed

Yeah, lots of good shots popping up from everyone involved in this thread... keep it up! Those grave photos, especially with helmets/visors (such as in yours, Bill) on top of the crosses, are such poignant and sobering shots.

Here's another one taken during Op. Weserubung in Norway. It's dated "4.40" (April, 1940) and the location is Elverum but I'm still missing a few of the words to completely understand the inscription... anyone?
Shot not too long after King Haakon and the government fled the city (and eventually, the country)? Either way, the soldiers posing are an odd pairing for sure, that boy looks awfully young...

It says "Vor unserem Quartier in Elverum" = "In front of our billet at Elverum"

Nice phot, and He Sure does look young! And I agree, some of the graves photos are chilling to see. Helmets with shrapnel damage, lonely berets/caps etc. Sad stuff, but it also allows us to look into where these men fought and died, using the Volksbund site/etc.

Here is a Sdkfz 251/10 light anti-tank vehicle! Equipped with a Pak 36. It is being transported/repaired I believe.
