Hi Bill, the pipe smokers are pre 1940: note the lack of breast eagles.

    Love the "HG" pics too.

    Cheers, Ade.

Here are three photographs which I have. The group photo appears to be pre-war, the other two look early war period. I have no further information on who these men were, except that they were all Heer / army. The man in the greatcoat appears to be a Gefreiter, the studio photo may be an NCO? Note what looks like a long service ribbon.

Ahhh yes, I didnt see that the first time Ade. Good eye. It looks like a few of them are wearing training trousers too, I believe. The pipes were "different" looking to me, as I usually see the all wooden ones in period pics. They almost look porcelain or something?

The HG div pics are actually the same men from the other group of HG pics I posted about a week ago. I was happy to get one with the cufftitle in veiw this time.

ALEX- thank you for sharing. Nice heer waffenrock photos

Right; the man in the second photo is a Junior NCO.

His shoulder boards are not fully visible, but his rank is either Unteroffizier or possibly Unterfeldwebel. The medal ribbon is indeed for the Army's Four-Year Dienstauszeichnung (Long Service Award).

By the way, he is actually wearing an old-model Reichswehr tunic, not a Waffenrock. (Note the presence of breast pockets and the lack of collar piping.)
It is probably a pre-war or at the most a very early-war photograph, same as the Waffenrock group.
