    Hi Guys,
I hope I’m not wearing out my welcome, but I would like to share this Photo / Postcard that I got in a bag of personal items (mostly pictures) with everybody, and was hoping that someone could please take the time out of there busy day to translate the back for us. I don’t have access to a scanner , so I had to include as many close up shots as I could in order the read it better. Please feel free to share any comments that you may have. Greatly appreciated….Dean

Thought shall be the harder , heart the keener,
Courage the greater as our strength faileth.
Here lies our leader ,in the dust of his greatness.
Who leaves him now , be damned forever.
We who are old now shall not leave this Battle,
But lie at his feet , in the dust with our leader

It cost me a few more gray hairs, but I managed to decypher it all. It's a postcard sent by a soldier at Constance [Konstanz] to a master bricklayer and his family at Dürmentingen.

    The card says:

    "Konstanz, den 12.12.36

    Meine Lieben!

    Am Dienstag haben wir eine
    Battl.
[= Battaillons-] Übung gehabt. In der Nacht
    vom Sonntag auf Montag werden
    wir nach Friedrichshafen fahren mit
    dem Dampfer u.
[= und] von dort mit dem
    Zug nach Weingarten zur Regts.
    [= Regiments-]
Übung. 50 % dürfen nur mit. Unter
diesen Besten bin auch ich. Es dauert
    ein zwei Tage. Über Weihn.
    [= Weihnachts-] Urlaub
kann ich immer noch nichts genaues
    sagen. Befinden gut. Was ich
von Euch auch hoffe. Viele Grüße an
    alle von Gustav
    "

    ...meaning...:

    "Constance, 12 Dec. 36

    My dear ones!

    On Tuesday, we had a
    battalion exercise. During the night
from Sunday to Monday, we will
    go to Friedrichshafen by
steamer and from there by train on to
    Weingarten for a regimental
exercise. Only 50 % are allowed to go. Among
these best ones will be me. It will take
one or two days. As for Christmas leave,
I still cannot say anything definitive.
    I am well. Which I
hope of you as well. Best regards
    to all from Gustav
    "

Konstanz, Friedrichshafen, Weingarten and Dürmentingen are all in Baden-Württemberg, Konstanz and Friedrichshafen being located by the Bodensee [Lake Constance].
