    Default Press Photo Arnhem?

    Good morning guys

I purchased this photo at the weekend for next to nothing & have a quick question:
Does anyone know where this could be?
It is stamped to the reverse:
    Telephone central 5544.
    Copyright
    Photograph Supplied
    By
    New York Times Photos
    3 Salisbury Square
    Fleet Street London E.C.4
    ENGLAND

I'm sure its not a training excersize because of the amount of planes!
    Any help greatly appreciated.

    Regards
    Dan

    I don't think it's the British at Arnhem ...
The landscape seems to be a little too much "rolling hills" .. for the Ede/Renkum/Ginkel area.
But !!! they might be US para's ... the chutes close to the ground look camo patterned .. and the photo was released to the US press

To tell you the truth, there seems to be many para's coming down in the photo .. considering the height of the C47's and the "Hang time" in the air, the photo might have been "enhanced" for the public ?

    Dan,
I know you said you didn't think it was a training exercise, ... but those "rolling hills" do remind me of Sailsbury plain ...

There were a few jumps done in front of Ike and co which numbered a fair few troops .. that would have been between mid 43 and mid 44 (discounting the winter.) ... and therefore noticing the crops are in, .... maybe early autumn 43 might be the place to start ?

    Dan,
I remember my father mentioning that Stonehenge was used as a rallying point during a training drop in 44 ..

Hi Guys, Update from NY Times... (Very helpful people by the way!)
Email to me confirms the following:
This is one of a series of photos from one press agent.
    Photo's are re: Operation Dragoon
    Date is set on / around:August 15, 1944
Location: The invasion took place between Toulon and Cannes.

I hope this is correct and will be printing the email off and sticking it with the photo.
Thanks to Phyllis @ NY Times
    Dan
