I find the winter photo with the soldiers wearing gasmasks shooting in the air interesting. I would say this is some type of training exercise. There does not appear to be a magazine in the MG34. Additionally it looks like them man behind the machine gun is wearing a white band around his helmet (hat?) like the reversible Red/White types used during war games.
"Please", Thank You" and proper manners appreciated

Thanks for sharing these photographs! A very impressive collection for sure. Especially interesting are the photos that capture the quiet times or the informal times, the things one seldom sees. Thanks again for sharing!

This photo had a duplicate, which had writing on the back (shown below):
    It says:

    "Zur Erinnerung

    vom 4. - 6.8.39
    Jüterbog - Altes Lager
    Flieger-Technische Schule

Looks like it. White cap bands were worn by the directors and umpires of military exercises/maneuvers.

Thanks HPL!!! I appreciate you bringing these writings into focus. It makes the photos become more than just a photo when you can glean the context from the writing. I wish I could read the handwriting more often, as I can run it through a translator and learn a little more German myself.

A very interesting selection of photographs in your collection and well presented. I found many that I studied for some time. Thank you for taking the time to present and preserve these images. Bob

Now here's an interesting photo. I don't get many WW1 photos (not my focus), but this is a nice photo and has a rather interesting subject. Notice the man in the white drill uniform.

So you can expect to see some updates in my own photo thread.

Way behind on updating this thread. Got a large batch of photos to post.

Also, a buddy and long time photo collector of the guy I buy a lot of my photos from sadly passed away recently. His photo collection went to my friend, and I will be focusing on picking up photos from this collection in the coming weeks. I've already purchased a number of photos that will be coming soon, and these are top quality photos that I think anyone still following this thread will enjoy. So, watch for the coming updates as I will be showing some really nice stuff, including some fantastic portraits.

Anyone recognize this place? I thought it was the Reichstag at first, but the tops of the pillars don't match up.
