Looks like a Sturmabzeichen to me.
I think you were right first time, an Infanterie Sturmabzeichen. You can see the rifle sling hanging down.

Open the picture and take a better look, im sure that is not an IAB. The rifle should start from the right side of the bottom, but on this medal it looks like theres no rifle...
I have opened the picture and I can see what I believe is a rifle and the sling.

It appears to be an Infanteriesturmabzeichen to me as well.
