Re: Unusual photo, tropical SS?
I know the sidecap is not SS, but he appears to have SS runes on the rt collar and a blank on the left, what else could they be, not Gulls from the Luft. Also there is insignia on his left arm, where a SS sleeve eagle would be. No cuff title. So any opinions?

Re: Unusual photo, tropical SS?
NSKK.
The tunic and cap are both Luftwaffe in origin, which is not unusual.
Cheers, Ade.

Re: Unusual photo, tropical SS?
Thanks Ade, what do ya think about the collar tabs and left sleeve? Do ya think this is an SS man with requisitioned uniform? The collar tab on his right appears to be the runes, ???

Re: Unusual photo, tropical SS?
No, he is NSKK, not SS. They wore a sleeve eagle and black collar tabs too.
Please show the whole pic and a close up on the collar tab if possible.
Cheers, Ade.

I'm not sure, I might be wrong and can't think what else it could be but I would think if they were SS runes, you would be able to see them more distinctly? At least see the shape of the design. Can you get a closer shot of the tab?
Looking for LDO marked EK2s and items relating to U-406.....

Re: Unusual photo, tropical SS?
So are we saying this is NSKK or Afrika Korps Luftwaffe Tan Tropical?
I for one do not see it being SS collar tabs... so a better scan of the photo required if possible

Re: Unusual photo, tropical SS?
Hi Guys, let me explain a little.
With the outbreak of war the NSKK was moblised to help the Armed Forces. It is a complex story, but much of the NSKK was split into NSKK Transport Regiments. Most of their uniforms came from Luftwaffe stocks. (Later many members transferred into the Transportkorps Speer circa 1943-45.)
In NW Europe you will see them wearing the Fliegerbluse, while in tropical areas, (Italy, Southern France, Greece, Balkans, etc) they wore the standard Luftwaffe tropical tunic, as in this photo. All were worn with NSKK insignia.
Cheers, Ade.
