I , myself, find it odd that a man who wore white suits to State funerals would be wearing such a hat. Am I wrong? I have several fotos with him wearing this cap. It appears Goring likes a pipe. Look at the jolly guy behind him. Did the SS give security to Goring?

The cap will be a standard Luftwaffe fliegermutze but with gold insignia as for his rank. I guess this pic was taken 1939/40?

He would not have had an SS escort. The Luftwaffe would have provided his personal proctection I would have thought.

    Cheers, Ade.

I have many fotos of Goring. It seems there is an SS mann in several of them. In one the SS mann is driving a car that Goring is riding in.

I don't see that having as SS man with you would necessarily provide any protection from a sniper who knew his 'trade'. Being surrounded with men didn't help Kennedy or Regan much.
Goring was in charge at one time of the Prussian State police which evolved into the Gestapo and thereby came under control of the SS so perhaps he's just a policeman door opener once allocated to the job it then became the routine that the police provided an escort. It reminds me of a guard being mounted in Tsarist Russia at a spot in the garden and had been done so for very many years, no one knew why. Research showed that one of the Royal family had asked if someone could be posted to prevent snow drops being stepped on whilst in flower. This ended up on the guard roster and a guard was posted regardless year in year out.
