What kind of hat are these guys wearing?

If you look at this foto you will see two guys wearing a cap with a white bottom to it. I doubt if it is a Xmas hat - is it? anybody have any idea what it is they are wearing? I have posted a close up of the guy on the left.

It is for a military war games umpire. It was a detachable white band not any kind of special cap.

I see you are a fellow gardener. If you ever get to Florida you will have to stop and look at ALL my tropical bamboo. I have quite a bit of it - different varieties. All clumping, no running.

Sometimes the reversible and size adjustable yellow and red bands turn up. They are fitted with clips to attach to the helmet and were worn to identify the opposing forces in war games and exercises.
