Weapons soon froze and became useless as did many men . I heard a story some
years ago how a sympathetic Russian farmer informed Oficers of the 2nd SS Panzer Div. of the usefulness of Sunflower Oil in the lubrication of weapons thus this Unit held firm when many others were decimated by the Soviet onslaught . Was this true ?
