Hey all. I bought an old box at a flea market and I had to cut a lock off of it and found this inside. I have no idea what this is and I was hoping someone can help me on this. It looks like it might've been trench art, but I'm clueless.

Possibly a patriotic piece, but it could be anything the swastika was not resigned to the third reich.

The first pic and the pic of the one you are holding in your palm is also known as an ancient egyption good luck sign. The American Indians used this sign for "Water".

Could be an ornamental piece set into a woodwork panel or door....or then again, it could just be a deliberately made bit of nonsense to sell to the "Nazi Collectors"...

That's why it's got me baffled. I don't really see any markings pointing it directly to be ww2 german. I did ask someone and he said it could've been a stamp from a factory or something? But then again, why just be on a thin piece of metal?

Phil is right, it was used as a symbol before the Reich adopted it, as well even Cattle producers used it as a Cattle Brand registered to there name, atleast in my local area there was a brand like it registered in the late 1890's.

Before the 1930's it was even used on the division patch of the U.S. Army's 45th Infantry Division.
