WW2 German Arfika Korps
Description: WW2 German Arfika Korps – Pith Helmet (Tropenhelmabzeichen)
This is an original first (early) version of the WW2 German Afrika Korps Pith helmet with 6 lines of stitching on the top section.
The helmet is in used condition, has some stains on the material and some of the leather has worn away from the brim. The internals are olive green and the outside is tan.
Inside the leather sweat band is in good order, the leather is reasonably clean and supple. There are no makers marks visible but the rim size 55 is stamped on the inside face of the sweat band. The leather strap looks to be original. It has some stains around the brass buckle and has light surface cracks in a few places. The brass nut and vent for the top section are present and correct.
This helmet came to us without badges, but with evidence showing where the badges were originally placed. We have added a set of badges to finish this helmet for display. The badges are WW2 originals but were in relic condition and have been cleaned, straightened and re-painted using acrylic paints. The tri-colour national badge has the makers mark for Assman and the Eagle badge has no maker’s marks visible.
These early helmets are becoming rare and this is one of the best examples we have seen for a while. Although the badges fitted are not the originals for this helmet they are genuine WW2 examples and finish this item off to a good standard.
We also have badges for this helmet listed separately on our web site.
