    For those of us who then went looking to find out what part of a Nebelwerfer it was, part 'K' on this diagram, by the look of it.

    It's the actual rocket nozzle part of the round. The rapidly expanding gas caused by the burning rocket fuel is forced out of the back (the wide end) through the holes, which are at an angle so that the rocket spin stabilises upon leaving the launch tube. The high explosive or smoke charge is actually screwed to the back of this unit.
