Can you help identify this hat?

I hate to bug you with identify questions, but I have no idea where to start looking for information on this cap. Is it Soviet? What era is it? My wife bought it for me on ebay, so I don't have it in hand yet.

Thank you in advance. I've just never seen one of the sort, and it's my first piece of headgear.

Hi and welcome to the forum!. I don't think the cap is Soviet made. I suspect it is actually a Canadian cap with a Soviet cap star.

That's what I was thinking. Doesn't look like any ushanka I've ever seen!

As a follow up, it's a Yukon style Canadian World War 2 cap.

Aside from the enamel damage, that appears to be a nice 38MM model 36 or 40 star. Please, would you show a close-up to satisfy my curiosity?
