    Default Help with Soviet Helmet

    Hello, all!

I got this from a local antique store from a local collector/ vendor who says he has had it since the early 1980s. He sold it to me for $25.

Two of the three liner pads have a funky geometrical pattern on them... one does not. There is a star stamping under the front visor part of the helmet. At the rear of the helmet it is marked: 3 3510 (What I think are number threes could be Cyrillic letters...?). Unfortunately, the ink stamp is right where some rust decided to spring up.

So! What do I have on my hands here?

Thank you so much in advance for your time and consideration!!

Of course I get excited any time I find a helmet big enough to fit my fat head... so of course I had to try it on!

    Nice SSch40.

The material for the pads is quite often found. My '42 dated example has them.

    Nice buy!

    Cheers, Ade.

    Sweet deal. I like it.

My Czechoslovak re-issued shell has similar markings, star under the visor, and a serial number at the back.

Thanks for the quick reply! I know it may be impossible to tell with the ink stamp being rusted over... but could you venture to guess who made this helmet and when it was made? I heard that the vast majority of WWII vintage Soviet helmets were brought back to the factory and updated for Cold War use...

Really impossible to say for sure on a maker? Most likely a post war refurb.

    Cheers, Ade.

As long as the helmet itself is WWII vintage, I'm thrilled!

    Hi ,

This type of chinstrap (green bottle) is used exclusively by the LMZ factory .
It seems that the stamp is deliberately obscured, however we recognize a spidermarking probably dated 1948.
