CT is the factory (Stalingradskiy Traktorskiy Zavod) and the number is the year (1957).
Thank you very much Jofre!
Some authors (like Robert Clawson) claim that CT is from Stalingradskiy Traktorskiy because during the war a lot of civil factories produced military equipment and this is an example. But I dont know if after the war the factory continued to produce helmets or only tractors.
You are right, initials are more likely to be Stalingrad than Stalingradskiy Traktorskiy. However, some helmet collectors defend that CT is Stalingradskiy Traktorskiy, for example Cascoscoleccion.com or world-war-helmets.com
I can not say what is its real meaning, the two ideas are accepted but I havn't more information, sorry.
From the Clawson book:
Attachment 1270429
I suspected that you were referring to these different sources, but it's been a long time now that I'm interested in Soviet helmets and the long and wonderful history of the Ssh 40 and this information is in my opinion incoherent with respect to some observations.
In the first place the factories that produced helmets post war have always used the "Z" for Zavod (this is the case of ЗКО and ЛМЗ with its marking called "spider") .
Why CT does not use it when the original name of the factory is CT3 ?
CT-marked helmets with stitched chinstraps (which is the main feature) appeared in 1954 until 1960 for the last known examples.
But look at this
Two ЗКО helmets dated 54 , first with a riveted chinstrap (produced between 1951 and 1954) and another with sewn chinstrap .
Below is a delivery note from the 3KO factory dated 1958 ( helmets are delivered in a wooden box of 30 pieces) while the factory no longer produces helmets from 1954 for the last examples.
Strange is not it ?
Wow! Now I'm confused
So, what do you think CT means?
