This visor has been offered to me, but as I am new to Soviet visors I would appreciate any information on it; Is it a Navy hat? all original? , time period? and what a fair market value would be to offer the seller. Please PM or email me if you prefer.

    Erich,

It appears to be a Soviet Navy engineering officer service cap. It looks original to me.

The only issue is that this version was worn up until 1969, if I am not mistaken. The design wasn't changed in the slightest since WWII, as with most Soviet militaria.

This one actually looks like it's dated 1941. Look at the bottom right corner of the box with the markings. If it looks like '41r' then it is a 1941 cap.

The cockarde's roundel/anchor should be silvered also. Other than that, the cockarde is correct for a cap from that period.

    Are the chinstrap buttons silvered?

Naval caps that date from the 50s/60s are noticeably quite different in design - especially the crown and visor.

Thanks for the help! Are there any books that deal with Soviet headgear in English that you can recommend?

There are none in any language. Forums, especially the Russian ones, are the best source of information for inquiries concerning Soviet militaria (except for ODMs) - IMO...
