    This is a 40 Pattern M (which is for Modernised) it has a Chin strap improved to make it more stable, in the end the Four Pad 60 Pattern largely cured the problem.

    As for the paint job.. HET! i have seen no Historical Documents, Naval Infantry did do it a bit, but not to that level.

    Most probably that was paint for parade or a local unit was used it for the celebration of the Victory, two guard's like soldiers near the monument being worn a stylised M 43 uniforms- I've seen that scary combination in circa early of 80's when I'am being a Soviet pioneer visited that place with our school
