I believe this is a Czech helmet in the Soviet pattern

It is actually Soviet, but a post war version of the Ssh40 helmet. Note the four point suspension loops for the new pattern chinstrap, which had been removed.

    Cheers, Ade.

OK..the large red star threw me off. The later pattern Czech helmets have the star as well so I thought it was an earlier version Czech issue Soviet helmet.

Hi Paul, an easy giveaway for the Czech made helmets is that the liner rivets are set higher up the helmet shell, like on a Ssh39.

    Cheers, Ade.

The Chin Strap doesn't look Russian... it has been made up, I did similar once for a Friend's Son .

since it still retains the original chin strap swivel loops in addition to the four added attachments for a Y strap as used on East German helmets, this is a standard Russian Ssh40 that has been refitted with the four point chin strap, dating around 1960 or later for use mostly by motorized infantry.

the strap thats on it now does appear to be a later add on to replace the Y straps
