I agree with Michael, too much rust on the interior, post war repaint with the outer rust painted over with black enamel.

The Soviets used a very dark green paint. It may look black in non-natural light, but it is definitely green.
As to this shell, I suspect it was repainted by the Finns, as one of the M-36 helmets that I have, came from Finland, and was also painted flat black, with the "primer red" inner color. As to the red star, I suspect (needless to say, I can't prove it) this is just someones post service addition.
Boridin
it came from finnland may be my xgirl friends father touched it up...i dont know
A photo with a helmet that seems to have the same color and a identical star !!
great pic dom..thanks alot i wonder if it was a specific unit?
Hi guy's ,
On this one, look at the man on the right !
I agree.....the "Red" on the inside is Red Primer, Not Rust.
OK... solid star for sure, but we still cannot tell the helmet color though and it would be nearly impossible to tell the dark green Ssh36 color from black in a photo like this.
Black helmets of many types are not uncommon from Finnland. I have an Ssh36 shell that has had a Finnish postwar black paint job removed. Civil Defense possibly?
Thanks for the great photos Dom, but I still think the helmet is a post war repaint.
