    Nice helmets Bernhard!
I would find it very interesting if you'd post pictures of the stamps of your helmets!

    with kind regards,

In the next pictures we will see a typical arrangement of stamps
    in all helmets :

From my observation there are no differences in shell sizes 2 and 2a ,
    3 and 3a .(I measured them with a tape )

The difference is the size of the liner that has been fitted in the shell.
Seems about the same procedure that was used by the germans-
fitting two different headsizes into one shell size .

Interesting for me that I have only seen even numbered liners on those
    helmets.
So roughly said it seems that the SsH 39 came in only three different shell
sizes , 1 being small , 2 being medium and 3 for large size shell.

I have and had only sizes 2 and 3 in my collection.

From what I have observed on my helmets it seems that

    poct 2 shell holds a 56 liner
    poct 2a shell holds a 58 liner
    poct 3 shell holds a 60 liner
    and 3a shell holds a 62 liner

unfortunately I do not have a size 1 or 1a shell in my collection , but would
expect the size 1 shell to hold a 52 liner and cosequently the 54 liner in a 1a marked shell.

I hope it did not get too confused by now

    Hallo Bernhard,
    the sizes make sense!
My helmet has the marking 2A , the size of the liner is 58!
