SSh-39 with non-standard star?

Hi guys, I just bought this helmet but I have doubts on the authenticity of the star as the sickle and hammer is not standard to usual SSh-39 helmets. The seller said that the star might have been a field painted star.

Sveiks Latvian Legion, my opinion is that the star is not original to the helmet. I think the seller is correct about it being field painted in that he walked out into a field and painted it. Kevin

Well, it's fairly hard to tell as the red paint shows fading and wear that matches the condition of the helmet. It cost me about $50.

To me it looks like the star was painted in more recent years, long after the rusty holes appeared.

Thank you ,but do you have any opinion on the helmet? Imho it's a fairly nice rare ground dug helmet.

llegion, I’m guessing the inside is completely rusted, and if so, it’s hard to give any opinions on originality. Regardless, since you only paid $50 it doesn’t matter that much. Just check here first if you start to get into the hundreds of dollars, some people are selling pretty tricky fakes these days. Kevin

application of a stencil is a manual operation, you can have some
distortions in the final result.

Personally I find this star quite convincing.
