SSh40 helmet authentic?

I got this lid a few years ago, it was sold to me as "an old Russian helmet" for the princely sum of $42.00 shipped. I have gone to many reference sites as well as looking at other helmets on this site. I normally collect US and German gear so this is a whole new ball game to me I would appreciate any advice.

It is original, however the inside has been repainted at some point in time. Hard to date exactly now as the ink stamps will be lost.

Yep like Ade said about the ink stamps being painted over, that paint looks very thin though so you could try to remove it with some acetone etc.

Thanks for the information guys, I will try to gently remove some of the pain and see if there is still an ink stamp. I looked for some ink stamps under the pads and nothing there. Regardless it will display well with my Mosin nagant collection. I will post up again if I find an ink stamp.
