not Russian, it's a Czech M53 later model with 3 point chin straps made of nylon, these date from the 1980's and later, very common post war surplus helmet, usually retails for less than $20

Hey BattleGear, thank you for enlighten me,,, so it is a copy from a russian model.. is it still collectable, or should i onsider it a fake? I dont know, but it´s still cold war, produced under USSR infuence, right ?

it's still a collectable, it is a military issue eastern block helmet, some people like me collect all the variations and some people must have original WWII manufacture, I prefer the earlier models

the shell is basically the same profile as the Russian model but the liner & straps are different

these were also exported to many third world armies

by now i have already become an M53 specialist... of course - more old=more cool... but i just think that this modern one carries the spirit of the older ones within itself.. it´s the resumee of an evolution that started 1953... hehe.. only, i feel that now i need one of it´s ancestor versions..
You know how that feels, don´t you battle gear? It´s like helmet hunting.... : )

sometimes I like to collect the first model, the second model the third model , etc of the same helmet and display them in order of the oldest to newest to show the differences

the Czech M53 has at least three variations that I know of:

    * the first model with leather liner and single leather chin strap [1950's era]

*the second model with leather liner and leather Y strap [1970's]

*the third model with a leather liner and a green nylon web chin strap with chin cup [1980's]

hi dan hashman can i just say that the vz53 cannot be compared to the soviet ssch 39/40 etc even though the rivit placements look similar thats where the comparison ends its just a shame so many of these are sold as ww2 soviet helmets its a con , heres a comparison of my helmets to show you the totally different profileUnknown Russian HelmetUnknown Russian Helmet

i, ve got my helmet today, and it´s not like the one on the picture, it looks kinda old and used, has a single leather chinstrap, so i guess it´s an early model. Unfortunately the "Chinpad" (or how´s it called) is missing, but it´s still pretty cool, specially the used look, so much better than a mint one (-just my humble opinion). I´ll post pics, so other users can use them to compare them etc..

Typical E-bay scammer, post a picture, buy it, bears no relation to the picture on arrival, but in this case you might have come out on top especially if its the older version, it could even be worth more
