That is a strange buckle Markus, do you think the prongs and sleeve are original to the buckle? I cannot recall ever seeing a aluminium prongs and sleeve on steel Dr Franke buckle, nice find mate
Ben
Hello,
yes Ben in my opinion it looks like original .
On the sleeve are clear traces from a tab and nothing gives occasion to a conversion .

Hi Chaps, isn't this a case of them using up old alu parts during the transition to steel being the date is 1940.
What about galvanic corrosion between aluminium and steel? Wouldn't there be an issue with this combination of metals not at the time of manufacture but maybe over the 70 years since?

Hi, how bad would it be? Wouldn't it be under the ears so you couldn't see it?
I am not a metallurgist and only posed the question based on known galvanic corrosion between steel and aluminium.
I know aluminium bodied cars that use a steel chassis normally require the body to be isolated from the chassis by rubber mounts because of the risk of galvanic corrosion between the two metals.
