gray paint on Heer buckle - early pebbled aluminum

Hello all,

I am use to seeing an olive color paint on the early pebbled aluminum buckles and this example appears more of a matte-gray color. Any thoughts on this for me please? It looks very thick to me which is why I ask.

The belt would have worn the paint off the rear i reckon!...
