Hi Chaps, I thought I'd add my M4/44 to the thread. Don't worry it's not the Collectors Guild one (i'm not that mad or rich!!) Anyway here it is. Not mint; but with a nice used feel. I like the eagles head profile on this one. Nice style.

    Cheers,

    Richard.

This one cost me $210. Not cheap; but not too bad for a rare buckle.

Thanks Ben, I was really pleased to get it I take it that these buckles were never produced with tabs & are late war period '43 to '45. Is that right? Cheers, Richard.

Richard, could not comment on the year, I have no known facts about that, I have never sen one with the maker marked tab before only private purchase tabs or other maker tabs period sewn on.

    Hello All,

Rather than show off in a new thread I thought I would dredge up this excellent older one with a recent addition to my collection. These Cramer M4/44 heer buckles are certainly rare but also an odd enigma and so perhaps we can revive some discussion here. Why should this one lone manufacturer politically mark their heer buckles? It also seems that rather than an oversight on a small run of buckles, this was a more consistent production.

With regard to my example, I have to say…I can smell the paint! I will admit I don’t have a lot of painted buckles within my collection and so am unsure it this is unusual or not. The paint is thick (and perhaps I have been sniffing too much of it) however might this piece have been re-painted sometime in more recent history? The color looks correct to me and the paint does have some noticeable wear points. Perhaps though this is sometimes done so as a piece appears “minty”?

Of course any and all comments welcome on my example and looking forward to further discussion.

    Best,
    Adam

Hi Adam, nice buckle The colour looks o.k. to me; but I don't think it should smell after this time. I understand the best way to test it is to try some acetone on it. If the paint comes off it's modern if not it's fine.

As for the M4/44 business, I think, they just 'cocked up' (technical term!!),

    Cheers,

    Richard.
