I have not actually seen many of these buckles but it is quite genuine and made by one of the biggest buckle makers around at the time. The buckle is in fact made by Assmann, you do not see many combat Heer buckles made by this maker for some reason, very interesting and hard to find buckle

Ben, I greatly appreciate your expertise and willingness to educate an unlearned collector. I have been studying your sticky threads on buckles but was unable to know how you identify it as an Assmann made buckle. Is there a certain characteristic that identifies it as such?

On this buckle it all about experience really, for future ref study the eagle on this one and the prongs and ears, the eagle is also very similar on their aluminium buckles, like I said, the steel ones and indeed the aluminium ones are as rare as hens teeth. The more you look at buckles and study their make up you will learn to recognise buckles just by certain bits on them

Hi All! (my first post here )

Ben is absolutely right! The buckle was made by Assmann and I like the very nice condition of this piece! I have attached my example for comparison!

BTW: Hello to all known and unknown buckle guys!

I paid $70.00 for the piece. Was that about right or too much?
