I received photos the other day of an interesting uniform that I can't find in any of my books. Is this maybe WWI, or WWII but not German? The buttons appear to have a lion stamped into them.

Looks like a Bulgarian Army tunic to me. See here for comparision: Bulgarian Air Force Major (includes images of Bulgarian Air Force uniforms and an insignia chart)

Yes it is an Infantry Lieutnant from the Bulgarian army. Officer uniform M1936, used till the end of WW2 /and of course shortly after/.
Hi Sokol. From what you can tell is everything on the tunic that should be there? The buttons for the two lower pockets I do have, just need to reattach them.
Also, What is the thread for above the left-hand pocket? A ribbon bar perhaps?
Yes, that is all, nothing missing. No, not ribbon bar, but the whole orders. The ribbon of the order would be inserted through the thread and the whole order would hang there.
