DAK Infantry

Hello Gents,

Why is there so few DAK Inf tunics around? I am looking for one, EM/NCO or Officer. Were there not many Infantry guys there?

lars I guess the DAK guys were so proud that they kept their tunics at the end.

Don't know. There seem to be quite a lot of Luftwaffe, Signal, Artillery, Sanität etc available. Not a whole lot, but no Infantry so far.

Hej Lars,

I think the german role in the North Africa theatre was to provide all the specialised branches such as airforce, panzer, artillery, paratroopers, etc while the italians were primarily providing the cannon fodder. So the percentage of the german forces that was made up of infantry has probably been lower than on the other fronts.
Until now I've only found 11 german infantry (schützen and panzergrenadier) regiments that served in Africa.

Another reason could be that the german forces didnt manage to pull back to Italy in time and the allies ended up taking more than 120.000 german POW's.

No infantry in Africa, so the only white piped units were light MG units, so very rare for originals to be found.

Would the 11 Inf regiments then have had white piping? If not what then. Interesting info indeed! If it was only light MG units then the number of tunics with white piping must be VERY low. Thanks again

Green piping for shutzen and panzer gren units, different shades maybe, but both used green.

Sorry I mean't light anti aircraft/Flak (mg) units used white but off course they used them as mg units. This thread shows the colours but also covers outside Africa so not as helpful as it might be.

Sorry if i am splitting hairs here Jerry. I was LMG gunner myself, on the MG62 So the MG units you are referring to is Flak gunners? Normally i would think it to be "funky" to organize light MG's in units. Other than for Flak and such.

I guess the bottom line is that there were not much white piping in Africa among the Germans. It could also sound like the Panzer Gren and Schützen etc were playing the role of Inf.
