Feldgendarmerie Gorget Review

Article about: Both are no good. I would love to have an original. The second is not so bad and could fill a hole in a gorget collection

    Default Feldgendarmerie Gorget Review

    What should someone look for when reviewing a Feldgendarmerie gorget? I've seen several but cannot tell what is real or fake sometimes. I know everyone hates to be "taken" by copies. I'll start with this example. Are there any specifics that suggest "good" or "bad"?

    This is a very rare gorget. But sadly this one is bad, the markings on the reverse hook condems it.

    Cheers, Ade.

    Thanks. Is it known where this fake comes from? I have seen two of them this week. Are there any references or websites to show what to look for in a "real" one?

    Hi I have had a few of the standard gorget (Army) but I only have one now I will post some pictures. I assume the LW is constructed in the same way.

    The other type I have had, had orange cardboard backing.

    Also have had an A marked for assman with felt backing.

    The one I have left were found here in Denmark in the town of Aalborg.

    Regards
    Lars

    I agree with the fake diagnosis:
    Eagle is wrong - no wreath around swastika;
    the prongs on the rear are too wide;
    backing material appears to be felt instead of woolen cloth or stiff card;
    chain looks wrong material - the real one was often silver painted steel.

    In my newbie open eyed deer in the headlight opinion its not ticking the right boxes - wide prongs and edge not rolled. Whats the backing material made from?

    I have already given my opinion to Richie via PM, and I would agree that this one is bad.

    The construction of the chain & prongs, backing cloth, colour to the scroll etc all condem it.

    Cheers, Ade.
