Looks like a regular shoulder board 'pip' to me. . Dont quote me though. I found some small glass pips that are apparently for shoulder boards too, though. I'm sure you can get some to give someone he to give definite info on it.

No problem!Also, I dont think theres a way to tell SS from WH when it comes to pips. Although the SS did have nearly EVERYTHING marked "ss".. including bullets, but Im sure you know this!~
Yes the SS was a little strict on this . We will get it cleaned up and see if there is some stamps there. I doubt it though.

I agree, metal rank pips for use on German military shoulder boards and collar tabs for rank designation. WW2 pips I believe have split pin attachments that originated from the center rear of the pips, with post war having 2 prongs in opposite corners
