Many thanks. But Infanterie is write with J? Do you have some informations about Infanterieregiment 8? This regiment fought in Salerno battle? (Italy sept. 1943). Again thanks.

    Hello again Matteo,
Yes indeed, in the german unit designation, Infanterie starts with an J in most cases.
You can have a look here (Lexikon Der Wehrmacht) :

Infanterieregiment 8 - Lexikon der Wehrmacht

Looks like the regiment disapeared in Stalingrad...!

Many thanks!!! I found a german tag of this regiment on Salerno battlefield (Italy, sept. 1943). Perhaps it came from a survivor of Stalingrad......

Why not...everything is possible...maybe a wounded soldier who has been evacuated before the fall of the german 6th army and who was sent after recovery to another unit that fought in Salerno....perhaps could you post a photo of this ID tag...
    Thanks

That's indeed a dogtag from JR 8. You're lucky that the ground didn't damage it more as it is not made as aluminium. It looks like a simplified tag without the slash. A is the blood group and 147 means that this tag was the 147th issued within the 5th company of JR8.
    Thanks

Not to worry about the ID tag. Plenty of Stalingrad survivors fought in Italy as well as elsewhere. Nice find!
