I would advise against adding anything to the tunic that wasn't once already there. Resist the urge to dress it up and throw on a load of decorations that shouldn't be there.

If you start adding loops or holes for an EK1 (for example) that doesn't belong then you've altered the tunic, made it something it wasn't.

I can't tell what should be there from the marks on the breast. None of the holes line up or appear to be straight. It might be the photo though.

Looking for LDO marked EK2s and items relating to U-406.....

I might be getting muddled, but hasnt the chevron been removed due to promotion? ie does it not go with the collar and shoulder strap braiding? Isnt it that the chevron is for junior NCO's and the braid for senior NCO's? Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
Your probably correct, removed after promotion. It might be possible to tell if the collar braid and that on the sb's has different thread/stitching showing where it was up graded.

Someone mentioned a veterans chevron, the only one I can thing of is the SS old guard (Alter Kampfe?) example which is worn on the other sleeve.
