Well Turkistan is a region in Asia meaning Land of the Turks

Turkistan became part of the Russian Empire in the 1860s and was named Russian Turkestan. After the Russian Revolution it was called Turkestan Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic. But in 1924 it was split up into Turksmen SSR and Uzbek SSR and these gained their independence after the fall of the USSR. They are now the countries of Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Karakalpakstan (autonomous republic of Uzbekistan).

As for the patch it was probablly a military patch from the Turksmen SSR days.

Hi Justin, this insignia is for volunteers from that region fighting with the Wehrmacht. Not Soviet related.

Hi Bob, could we see the back please? I have real doubts about this one and I think someone is being cute. One of the easiest giveaways on most of these fake foreign volunteer shields is the backing material. This should be a grey/green shade. The fakes are a much darker colour. Hence I wonder why this one is cut away.

    Cheers, Ade.

Hi Bob, I have gone back and looked in my fake files. This is a bad one, so you can forget it.

    Cheers, Ade.

Hi Bob, have a look at the Luftwaffe General's cap on the forum shown by Kirk and compare them.

    Cheers, Ade.

Another phoney, huh? They "antiqued" this one, so I guess that is what fooled me. Any idea where these are made?

India or Pakistan. They do fairly good work cheap, but it is just not the same as the original German product

BTW Here is a link to a good Turkistan legion shield:

    Bevo "TURKISTAN" Foreign Volunteer Shield

Commit that shade of grey/green backing to memory.

    Cheers, Ade.

Those morons didn't even get the colors right! My repro is pink & blue. Lovely pastel shades , to be sure but the original one was red & blue. Of course I'm sort of color blind, so if I am wrong, take that into consideration.
