Insignia Question
Hi guys,
I am currently putting together an walking out impression to represent my girlfriend's grandfather, who was a stabsgefreiter, radioman and field telephone lineman in Panzerarmee-Nachrichten-Regiment 2 (Tank Army Reconnaissance Regiment 2) from Barbarossa until he surrendered to Americans in 1945.
The plan is to buy a wool tunic and dress it up accordingly. I was hoping to get some suggestions on what it should look like. I was thinking an M40 tunic, but what piping would he have worn? Copper-Brown? Would he have anything else like a fernsprecher trade badge?
I know that he earned the EKII just outside of Moscow, as well as the Ostmedaille. Should I put both ribbons under the second button of the tunic, or just one?
Thanks,
Mo

The Waffenfarbe would be Zitronengelb (lemon yellow) at army, corps and division levels for communication troops. Field level communications with other troops (Infantry, armor, pioneer, artillery etc.) should be the color of the originating unit including regiment level, battalion level and attached communication staffs. A Stabsgefreiter would have worn the proper color "Blitz" patch on the left arm just above rank. There were two other patches worn on the cuff for specialists - radio and communication tech. Sounds like the grandfather had the standard Blitz. The attached photo of a radio operator should give you a good ballpark idea. NH
