    Thanks Steve, me neither LOL ...............................However I think the cap is post war........................ The tally is ok and the eagle and cockade are too.
    It would be nice to find out that it's a "rare variant" but somehow I don't think my luck is that good

    Not a regulation KM issue cap. Construction looks all wrong.

    Original KM issue sailors caps are unlined (ungefüttert) as far as the cap body is concerned. The cap band stiffener is celluloid and being unlined is exposed and easily seen if you fold down the sweatband. The top is removable and is lined only on the crown but not on the side panels on originals. This appears to be fully lined. The vertical post holding up the front of the capo should be covered in white fabric.
    The white stamped number is unlike anything I've ever seeon on a KM issue piece . THese usually have a white stamped BAK or BAW (BekleidunfsAmt Kiel/ Wilhelmshaven) and/or a simple two digit size mark in white.
