Default Kriegsmarine - Uboat Leather Jacket.

Original heavy gray leather, all it's buttons are present and correct.

Not the usual 3/4 length double breasted type, this is the shorter single breasted version.

    Black wool interior.

    Complete with manufacturers label.

It would normally have the small stand up collar, but I think it's had a "in field" modification done to it.

Hence the green collar added, was it for extra warmth?

It's been done to good standard and quite suits the look.

The only damage I can see is the small seam tear under the right armpit.

    I will have that restitched.

    Nice jacket

I've never seen a U Boat jacket with a felt collar before, not that this means anything. All the examples I have seen usually have a small mandarin-type leather collar, or a large wide leather collar... maybe a post-war modification for civilian use after service. A felt collar would hold moisture on those boats!

Yes, normally it would have the "stand up" collar.

But I wonder if the original collar was too small, and this was added for possibly more protection, against the elements in some way?

It could well be a post war modification (?), but somebody has gone to a long way to add this collar.
