Article about: The lowest of clothing items ( pun intended ) is the Gamaschen - or gaiter - that the Germans used with their low boots. Hated by many but certainly ubiquitous to the mid to late war soldier

    Rather bizarrely, when I was in the Army and while on camp or exercise we always used traditional gaiters blacked with boot polish. But when we were deployed to Northern Ireland on active service, we used puttees!

    Here is a pair I just picked up for 20 US dollars! I hope you can see the color well enough. They are the same color as the Luftwaffe Brotbeutel and Rucksack with the same texture. NH
