Luftwaffe marksmans lanyard

Hi Guys, this is a lowest grade Luftwaffe marksmans lanyard issued for shooting skills. Introduced in 1936 and worn on parades, guard duty and when walking out. The Luftwaffe eagle insignia is well detailed and is die struck. The back of the knot is covered with Luftwaffe blue woolen cloth. These badges were only available to enlisted men and NCO's.

This was a nice little buy for £10 from a army surplus shop some years ago now.

Can't find them like that any more Ade. Was the grading symbolised by acorns like the army version?

Hi, yes the system was simliar to that used by the Heer.

The higher grades were symbolised with acorns or artillery shells for Flak troops.

This particualr pattern of lanyard was used for grades 1 to 4. The next grades (5 to 8) had the colours of the lanyard reversed. The higest grades of 9 to 12 had a gold coloured insignia and a lanyard with gold chevrons.
