Default Oberleutnant Feldgrau Wrapper. New arrival.

I thought I was going to lay low for a bit, but somehow this showed up. Feldgrau wrapper for an Oberleutnant in probably a Panzerjäger unit but could also plausibly have been in one of the Panzergrenadier regiments that had pink Waffenfarbe and he fancied wearing a wrapper. A number of soldiers not expressly authorized wrappers took it upon themselves to "organize" one. There's even a wrapper pictured in Edwards and Pruett that has provenance to a Sturmartillerie unit yet has pink-piped insignia, so who knows? Later war artificial silk lining and I cannot explain why the neck size is "00" on the stampings. These were worn predominately open-collar, but wrappers were still supposed to get a neck size measurement. Since it was originally a factory produced issue piece, the officer removed all of the factory insignia and had narrow bridles attached for officer shoulder boards and had the rest of the insignia attached by hand. The factory eagle was removed and an officer grade flatwire installed.

Lay low!?!? Not going to happen, I predict!! A very nice pickup for "laying low". I can't imagine what you might find if you were "on a mission" as they say!
    Nice piece!

Well, a funny thing happened on the way to the auction...

I seem determined to ruin SOS for myself this year. It's looking like I'll go and sit in a corner and pout because I spent all my money in advance.

    Hello,
In 1944 (and from 1943), pink is the Waffenfarbe given to all Aufklärungs Abteilungen within an armoured formation, so he could be reco as well (units from the 24. Panzerdivision being the only ones allowed to maintain golden yellow as Waffenfarbe)....the same year, most of Panzergrenadiere units within "Elite" formations received the Feldgrau Sonderbekleidung...
    Thanks

I actually won a couple Aufklaerer tunics as well, to include the Waffenrock attributed to Clemens Freiherr von Fuerstenberg. So, overwhelmed by my "success" early in the auction, I had to sit back for much of the rest of it, and just competed for a couple small lots after those unexpected wins up front.
